The sketches above were done by my dad Holger Hansen during the 1950s when he attended the Vancouver School of Art (which later moved and became Emily Carr University). Back then, Vancouver looked just like a Fred Herzog photo. Granville Island was all industry and boat building, and Kits was overrun with beatniks.

I was lucky enough to be raised by two artists.  My mom sews, crafts, and makes amazing fiber art. My parents’ house and garden is full of art pieces — sculptures, found object collages, hooked rugs… My dad has also built several kayaks and two sailboats, plus the family house and a lot of the furniture in it. He has also made jewelry!  (which I plan on making available in my Etsy store very soon) Not a day goes by that I don’t feel very lucky and grateful to have these smart, funny, sane, talented people in my life.

I bumped into artiste-about-town Rob Chaplin in Chinatown yesterday, and he kindly gave me a copy of his new book.  His witty rhymes, elegant typography, and sweet illustrations combine to form something truly lovely and unique.  You can buy the book here, and his silk screened posters here!
