Stuffies by my pal Audra Neil. She had a show/sale at Joe Blow Glassworks on the weekend with fab jewellery maker Erin Dolman.

Check out the Shiny Fuzzy Muddy sale next weekend at Video In Studios. Lori Joy Smith will be there!

Canadian celebrities

December 12, 2006

Last week I went to the Mint Records Christmas party at the lovely Ukrainian Hall, and in spite of the fact that the crowd was 10 years younger and 10 times hipper than me, I had a pretty swell time. Every Canadian should see Nardwuar the Human Serviette play live once in their life. There were several great bands playing, including The Awkward Stage who stood out for me. (And Franz Ferdinand made a surprise appearance.) It all got me thinking, as I often do, about Canadian celebrities, and how special and different they are. Few people outside of Canada know who they are, which makes them all the more cool and lovable to me. And the ones who stay here rather than try to make it big in the USA endear themselves to me all the more.

Who is your favourite Canadian celeb? Discuss…

I love these darkly cute figures in shadow boxes which I saw in the window of Bau Xi Gallery. View them all here. Available until Dec 24. Her website.
